Late last summer, our parish broke ground on the first phase of a multi-building church campus. While the record winter cold significantly has slowed the process of construction, work continues and we are eagerly awaiting an early-summer 2014 move from our current storefront to our first free-standing church building.
In our 12-year history, St. Athanasius Orthodox Church has benefited greatly from the support of both the OCA Church Planting grant and the Diocese of the South pastoral grant, which helped our founding priest, Fr. David Rucker, leave secular employment and devote himself full-time to church work. These grants achieved their goals and by the end of 2006, St. Athanasius had grown enough to take over the full salary of our current pastor, Fr. Justin. The members and benefactors of St. Athanasius are grateful for the investment of both the OCA and the Diocese of the South in the parish, which has not only helped to grow St. Athanasius, but also to bear witness to the Orthodox Faith in a state relatively underserved by the Orthodox Church. We invites you to follow our progress on our website or on Facebook. Formal dedication of the new church is tentatively scheduled for September 2014.
