While Great Lent remains a great mystery to most Americans (including American Christians), from the first centuries of the early Church, the forty day period preceding Pascha (Easter) was considered an integral part of Christian life. As we prepare to enter into the season of of Lent, St. Athanasius Orthodox Church will be hosting an open community event to address the rich history and meaning of Lent both for Christians in the early Church and for Orthodox Christians today. Fr. Justin Patterson, pastor of St. Athanasius, will offer the multimedia presentation at 7:30pm this Wednesday (Feb. 25) with the goal of exploring both the historical roots of Lent, as well as its continuing presence and significance among Eastern Orthodox Christians throughout the world. Our forum at 7:30pm is preceded by Vespers, which will be served at 6:30pm. Our doors are open to everyone! For more information, please dial 881-8144.
Childcare will be provided.
