In the Orthodox Church, Lent is not only a time of fasting, penance, and prayer, but also a time to radically increase our time praying in community. As part of the lenten effort, Orthodox parishes offer many extra services, particularly during the time of Clean Week (1st Week of Lent) and Holy Week.
