St. Nicholas Day Festivities

On Saturday evening, Dec. 5, St. Athanasius will begin our parish celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas.  Our Vigil service for the feast starts at 6:30pm and will include special hymns concerning this giant of a saint.  On Sunday morning, St. Nicholas Day itself, we will begin with an adult baptism at 9am, followed by the Divine Liturgy with a homily on St. Nicholas.  Following the Liturgy and a fellowship meal, we will have a visit from St. Nicholas himself, who will tell us about his life and times, as well as present special treats to all the children gathered for the occasion!

3rd Annual Fall Lecture Series, Part III

This year, our Fall Lecture Series focuses on “The Forgotten Church: Early Christian Answers to Today’s Questions.”   Our third talk in the series, offered by Dr. David Bradshaw of the University of the Kentucky, will examine the meaning of predestination and election in light of the teaching of the Church Fathers, especially St. John Chrysostom.  It will be followed by open discussion.  Persons of all perspectives (Calvinist, Arminian, etc.) are welcome.

  • Event: “Predestination & Election in the Early Church Fathers”
  • Place: St. Athanasius Parish hall (see directions in sidebar)
  • Time: Wednesday, Dec. 8, 7pm-8pm

Childcare provided.  Visitors welcome

Refreshments, questions, and Compline Prayers follow
