St. Athanasius Annual Clothing Drive & Giveaway

November 6, 2008 Featured

The coat hanging in your closet belongs to the man who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the man who has no shoes. You do wrong to everyone you could help, but fail to help. –St. Basil of Caesaria in Cappadocia (AD 330-370)St. Athansius Chapel in Nicholasville

St. Athanasius Chapel

On Saturday, November 22, from 9am until 12pm, St. Athanasius parish will be giving clothing and other household items away in front of our church to anybody who needs them. If you, a loved one, or friend, have such needs, you are welcome to come and receive. The Lord says, “Freely you have received; now freely give.” It will be a joy to serve all that come with needs. (We will be limiting each person, however, to ten items.) Last year, we were able to help about 100 families, many of whom had many children and grandchildren.

A word about collecting: each Sunday (9a-1pm) and Friday (9am-1pm) until November 22, our parish will be collecting clothing and other household goods for those in need in our Jessamine County community. If you would like to make a donation, leave a message on our church machine at 881-8144 and we will get back with you.

Mark your calendars:

  • Part 4 of 4 of our Fall Lecture Series: Wednesday, December 10th-Fr. Justin Patterson will be speaking on “Monasticism as an Encounter of the Kingdom.” As introduction to Fr. Justin’s talk, we will be screening the widely acclaimed new film (30 min.) on the monastic life, produced by the Holy Cross Hermitage of West Virginia. To see a trailer of the film and to learn more about the monastery, visit www.holycross-hermitage.com
