Syria Crisis: Reception & Presentation

September 25, 2015 Featured

lexington-jessamine-syria-reception-10-10-15-flyer1.qxpWe are witnessing today in Syria and its surrounding countries one of the greatest humanitarian crises since the end of the Second World War. Images of refugees, children, and destruction flood our televisions and newsfeeds. The Syrian Christian community remains a tenth of the Syrian population (2 million people). The Orthodox Christians, Roman Catholic, and Protestants communities alike are particularly vulnerable in this time of crisis.  What can we do? In answer to that question, the leaders of three local Orthodox Christian churches and pastors of the Jessamine County Ministerial Association are hosting a special benefit at St. Athanasius Orthodox Church in north Nicholasville on Saturday, October 10, from 4pm to 5:30pm. This event will feature a 10-minute film about life in Syria and in the camps, and include two speakers who are Syrian refugees, as well as a priest of the Syrian (Antiochian) Church. Our hosts are providing complimentary ethnic pastries and desserts, light food, and coffee. 100% of all proceeds from this event will be entrusted to the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), one of the preeminent relief agencies at work in Syria today. This charity work of IOCC is administered by Orthodox Christians who are “on the ground” in Syria and in the refugees camps, working to ensure that Christians and non-Christians alike receive a helping hand. Visit our event page to reserve your $5 ticket. Please spread the word about this event and do your part to reach out to the most vulnerable in the world today.
