Nativity Fast Begins this Sunday. As we enter the blessed season of preparation for Christmas known in the Orthodox Church as the Nativity Fast (also St. Philip’s Fast or Advent) . This 40-day season is not nearly as penitential or strict as Great Lent. Nonetheless, it is a reminder to engage in moderate denial of our passions and appetites and to prepare our hearts for the Coming of our Lord. Alms collected during the Nativity Fast will go to help the work of the Jessamine County Food Pantry, which is trying to feed 1,000 households this holiday season, and to famlies within our parish that are in need.
