February & Preparation for Lent

February 1, 2025 Featured

In the Orthodox Church, February is often a month in which our common life begins to “flicker” into Great Lent, which (this year) begins on March 2. Starting on February 2nd, we begin the month-long journey of pre-Lenten Sundays. Cheok out our full online calendar here — updated though the end of May. Our hard-copy calendar for February can also be found below, if that format is easier:

Additionally, we are making some changes in how we share out information. A major source for volunteer information is now kept here, where you can find an updated list of ministry leaders and rotations for various ways of serving.

We invite you to visit St. Athanasius. Every service is a “welcome service.” But we have an additionally warm welcome planned for visitors on Sunday, February 23, as we mark our pre-Lenten “Visitors Sunday.” On this “Visitors Sunday” we will have extra resources explaining our Orthodox Faith, a post-Liturgy Church Tour, and an informal time for Q & A with our clergy. Before you visit, check out our “welcome section” here. If you live in Eastern Kentucky or along the I-75 Corridor, consider a visit to our daughter mission St. Nina, located just off I-75 in historic Berea.

A full collection of photos from our Parish Life in January 2025 (including of our Epiphany Celebrations, parish life, and from our St. Nina Mission in Berea.) Enjoy this glimpse into our parish and mission life:
