We greet you as Orthodox Christians around the world mark the most beloved season of the church year–Great Lent. The Lenten season then leads to Lazarus Saturday & Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and (finally) to the Feast of Feasts, the Pascha of our Lord! We are glad you have found us and we invite you to visit our parish soon. You can learn more about making an actual visit to St. Athanasius here. You can also take a peek inside our church by checking our our parish YouTube channel. Watching a service is no substitute for actually being present, but we invite you into our “virtual space” if that helps you get a sense of what we do in our services. Our “PDF” calendar for Lent 2025 is below (and our full online calendar–updated through the end of May–can be found here.)

We also welcome those who are in (or close to) Madison County or further south to consider a visit our St. Nina Mission, which helps extend the reach of the Orthodox Faith along the I-75 corridor and Wilderness Trail. (St. Nina has its own chapel location at 213 Pauline Drive # 5, Berea, KY and the mission meets about 9-10 times per month.)
Among the regular services and events you’ll generally find each week at our church in Nicholasville during Lent (just minutes south from Lexington) are:
- 630pm Saturday All-Night Vigil (Vespers & Matins combined)
- 815pm Saturday Confessions following the Vigil
- 930am Sunday Liturgy with Fellowship Hour following
- 1115am Children’s Sunday School (3 classes for different ages)
- 12-1230pm Sunday Bread Ministry (free distribution of bread/foods )
- 6pm Wednesday Presanctified Liturgy
- 720-820pm Soup & Salad Dinner following the Wednesday Liturgy (online sign-up)
- other services, especially Molebens and Akathists, according to the calendar
Below is a collection of photos from February 2025 showing the full range of liturgical, educational, and social life in our parish. We hope these photos and the depth of our Faith inspire you to visit us during this upcoming season! If you have questions about our calendar or any aspect of our Faith or parish life, please reach out to our rector Fr. Justin at fr.justin@bluegrassorthodox.org or to our associate priest Fr. Giorgi at fr.giorgi@bluegrassorthodox.org
