Building Project Update – March 31, 2013
The Building Steering Committee invites the whole parish (or at least one adult from each household) to attend an open presentation and meeting this Sunday, March 31 at 12:30pm in the nave. The BSC will review our recommended Phase 1 plans. We really value your questions and any feedback you might offer, as well as suggestions you might have for how we can lower costs. Architect Tom Smith reminded us that any concerns we catch now, before he goes to draft the more detailed building plans that will go out to bid, will save us money and headaches in the days to come. We ask that you communicate questions and concerns to us either in this meeting personally (preferably) or by email to Fr. Justin (by this Wednesday, April 3). The BSC will review this feedback from you at our next meeting this Thursday, April 4th, at 11:30am at the church.
The Parish Council meeting on Saturday, April 6 (promptly) at 5:45pm is also open to the parish. This will be the major point at which we move forward and authorize Tom Smith to prepare complete sets of plans for contractors to use in preparing bids for the project.
Our building project timetable is intentionally aggressive. Why?
The soil engineer recommends a summer ground-breaking
and we are working hard to achieve that optimal goal.
Tom Smith will need 1-2 months to complete the more
detailed drawings; we need to authorize plans on our end
so he can begin.
We need 1-3 months to get permits pulled.
During that same period the BSC and Parish Council will
interview at least 3 contractors who will be vetted to
handle our building project.
