St. Athanasius Selected as Telos Project Parish! Several months ago, we announced that Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Seminary was sponsoring a 5-year program looking carefully at young adults in the Orthodox Church in our country. As part of the application process, we gathered interested volunteers and a team of five adults (Zoe Zamora, Bert Walther, Kathryn McCord, Lovell Foushee, and Josh Bertram) emerged to help lead the process. The Telos Project includes grants to bring this group together with other folks from the other 13 pilot parishes: to learn, to help see what patterns emerge in healthy parishes, and to strategize for the future of Orthodoxy in America. This is especially of interest to our parish as we have a dozen teens who will be entering the “young adult” phase in the next several years. Many years to our team and this interesting pan-Orthodox project!
Vespers on Wednesday, August 23 at 6:30pm. The weekly Christian Education Class that follows features a slide presentation on Russia given by parishioner, Zoe Zamora. Zoe will be sharing some highlights from her semester in Russia. She will be sharing about her Russian “hometown” of Vladimir, her trips to various Russian cities, and her pilgrimage to the Diveevo monastery, where St. Seraphim of Sarov’s relics are located.
